One of the reasons I hate blogging is because I suck at it. I never seem to take the time to keep it up to date. Why do I blog then? I am not really sure! I guess that it’s good to get things off my chest. I kinda feel like I am writing to my brother a little when I blog. Someone I can tell about stuff that is a little interesting anyway.

Regardless, I am still blogging, even though I am shit at doing it regularly!

Running 🏃

I have been suffering with a sore hip. Sometimes when I step at an angle, I get a weird twinge. When I run, it seems to be fine for the first mile or so, then it becomes sore and aches. I haven’t done anything long since last weekend, but it has me nervous.

I was supposed to run the East Fork 50K, but my grandfather passed away. His funeral was the day before the East Fork 50K and there was no way to go from Wisconsin to southern Ohio after the funeral and still be in any shape to run the 50K. I talked with my coach and we decided it would be best to drop from the East Fork and find another 50K.

I signed up for the Crowell Hilaka 50k over near Akron, OH. I went out and ran the course and I like it a lot. Instead of one 50K loop, it is 5 loops of 10K (6.2 miles). That will be good for me hitting the aid station. I will get to see my crew more often. It has the same elevation gain as the East Fork 50K, but it’s different. East Fork had some big climbs in the first 10 miles, then it was pretty flat. The climbs were ones you had to hike. Crowell has more GRADUAL climbs that are runnable. Runnable, but at what cost? I think that if I try to run the climbs ever lap, I will end up burning all my matches too early. I may try to fast-hike the climbs the first 2 or 3 laps and see how that goes.

I just need to get this hip right soon. The Crowell Hilaka is on September 14th. That is only 17 days away!

Family Stuff 👫

The Dear Wife is back at work. Summer was a nice vacation for her, but now that school has started again, she has to go back to it.

Ben just left for a trip to Japan 🗾. I am so excited for him. I love to travel and I have never been to Japan. I am sure he is going to love it, though. It’s on my bucket-list, for sure.

Projects 💻

I have A LOT of stuff that I want to do that is on my list. Right now I am trying to get Heimdall set up in a Docker container. I feel like I would really benefit from a decent dashboard that shows all my projects. My problem is getting it set up behind security so not just anyone can see it. That means putting Authelia in front of it and using a reverse proxy.

I have Heimdall responding well, and Authelia is installed (haven’t got to configure yet) but I was trying to use NPM to route the request for Heimdall through Authelia. It keeps choking. I am going to ditch NPM. The Alt Locations are just too much. I think I am going to take a swing with Traefik. I’ll see if I can get THAT working any better!

I also just got my hands on my mom’s geneology file and a copy of Roots Magic. Erica has been interested in doing geneology for her side of the family, so I wanted to get her set up on that. I also was looking at a self-hosted webapp for geneology that would be a resource for our family to look up relatives. I need to explore more on that.

Lastly, I need to clean up my NAS. I have reached capacity and, although I love sharing my stuff with other people, I don’t have the heart to ask them to donate money for new larger drives. I could easily drop about $2500 on drives right now… well, if I had $2500 to drop on drives, I could do that. As is, I need to start removing some media to make room for new media.

There it is… there is my update for now. Chat again soon!
